Footballco in the News: August
August saw work across Footballco celebrated across trade media, covering everything from the female footballers from Afghanistan to the success of our youth-focused video series, 1Vs1 in Italy.
August saw the launch of the latest edition of GOAL Editions - a new magazine-style content format from GOAL that celebrates football and footballers away from the pitch, giving fans a chance to see what matters to them the most, whether that’s fashion, food, music or anything else that they connect with.
In the latest issue, covered by Sport Industry, we focused on Fatema Baratyan, Elaha Safdari and Sahar Chamran were among dozens of female Afghan players forced to flee the country and scatter across the globe in 2021 when the Taliban returned to power.
MUNDIAL kicked off a new video strategy, as covered by Broadcast Sport, which will see the brand produce more documentaries, with each new print issue of MUNDIAL supported by an accompanying documentary. To get things started, we launched Why Is Women’s Football So Gay. A film hosted by journalist and Whippets FC centre-back, Rosie Hewitson and Suky Stroud of Ex Girlfriend FC, covering the relationship between women’s football and queerness.
August marked the one-year anniversary of 1VS1 - the YouTube series from GOAL’s Italian edition and Calciomercato focused on games and challenges, which has proved to be a hit with young audiences. Engage covered this in depth in an interview with our Editorial Director for Europe, Renato Maisani.
