Working with the Footballco content, social and video teams, you will assign and edit enterprise, feature, news, lifestyle and match coverage of soccer in the US, accelerate our brand and help drive audience growth among emerging fans.

The position is based in the US, hybrid in NYC and remote, and will involve working weekends.

What you'll be doing
  • Supervise a staff of reporters and editors with an emphasis on the delivery of authentic and trusted features, enterprise, lifestyle, news and distinct analysis and opinion pieces, focused on US soccer — on and off the pitch.

  • Relentlessly craft and improve content, embracing tone of voice, opinion and unconventional storytelling to capture the spirit of the growing US soccer audience and serve emerging fans.

  • Collaborate with editors at other Footballco properties on effective and compelling editorial content to serve fans of all levels of passion and knowledge.

  • Collaborate with editors across international editions on features, news, match coverage, social media and other elements to both generate and distribute soccer content for global fans.

  • Assist with big-picture, conceptual vision for the soccer vertical, including generating and planning story ideas, editorial platforms and expansion opportunities.

  • Provide process and priorities to balance content assignments ranging from short-form and breaking news to daily coverage and long-form projects.

  • Maintain proficiency and knowledge of SEO best practices, engagement metrics and a data-driven mindset for digital publishing.

  • Develop comprehensive multimedia coverage and packages that may include text, audio and video, working closely with other editorial pillars and social media leads.

  • Coordinate staffing assignments, editorial resources and process, including desk duties, editing and event coverage, and enterprise and feature calendars.

  • Maintain an updated and accurate forward-looking editorial content budget.

  • Collaborate on story ideas and design for best execution of visual elements.

  • Edit and publish stories via various content management systems.

What you have
  • 5+ years of experience in digital sports journalism, with an emphasis on soccer, and experience at a supervisory level.

  • Demonstrated ability to generate story ideas that result in growth and engagement.

  • Ability to work with writers on strengthening ideas and keen knowledge of how to take a single idea and develop it into a broader package.

  • Proficiency in the following: concept creation, copy editing, story structure, style guidelines, generating content for diverse audiences and multi-platform distribution.

  • Ability to add context to stories, edit in the writer's voice, ensure fairness and accuracy, provide story structure and act with urgency in a real-time environment.

  • Ability to mentor writers and lesser experienced editors.

  • Detailed understanding of the digital and social media landscape

  • High-end knowledge of soccer, globally and domestically, especially MLS, NWSL, USL, the US national teams and connection to American soccer players internationally.

  • Interest in serving Hispanic soccer fans, including those will ties across the Americas.
