Footballco and Heineken Win Industry Award For UCL Content Partnership

Footballco was one of the big winners at the Digiday Marketing and Advertising Awards, picking up the award for the Best Branded Content Site for Fresher Football for Heineken.

Footballco partnered with Heineken, a UEFA Champions League partner, as part of their Fresher Football campaign which aims to challenge the idea that “football belongs to men”.

Heineken believes the best way to tackle this bias towards the men’s game is through action, with the first step being visibility. Heineken has partnered with Footballco in 2022 and 2023 to supercharge this push within the game by creating the only UEFA Champions League website where statistics have no gender bias on GOAL in four languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese and Croatian.

The website features a multitude of statistics, covering both the men’s and women’s game, from Champions League top scorers to the most successful teams and upcoming fixtures. Men's or women's it is all there in one place.

Speaking at launch of the website, Thomas Mulders, Heineken’s global sponsorship manager said: "With Heineken's Cheers To All Fans campaign we want to tackle gender stereotypes that exist in football. Female football statistics aren't represented in the way that they should. We were very happy to have partnered with Footballco to launch Fresher Football, to provide fans a platform on GOAL where statistics are being shown based on the data, not on gender.”
