What is Footballco?
Footballco is the world’s biggest dedicated football content and media business. Reaching more than 400m football fans across the world each month, and with a growing roster of brands including Goal, Voetbalzone, and Spox, no one else has our reach or depth of understanding within the game. With over 300 employees globally, we’re a young company with some established brands and serious investment behind us. Our future starts now…
What’s the role about?
Footballco is looking for a dynamic leader to drive the next phase of video growth for GOAL for our US audience. You will be owning audience growth & engagement across GOAL social platforms, primarily by producing original video programming for social media. You will also have an opportunity to support and contribute to our growing community brands including INDIVISA and MUNDIAL. You will be our content leader in the USA, building a social and video team designed to capture the next generation of fandom.
At Footballco we are building a modern media company that entertains & informs users with original content and news from our portfolio of soccer publishers. A company that services the fan’s desire for knowledge and brings them new entertainment no one else can make. A global publisher that can ensure the best soccer content travels to fans everywhere. (By the way, we’re calling it “soccer” for this job description but our company HQ is in London and it’s “football” to us!)
In this role, you will be shaping our identity every day by leading teams to produce, curate, and create the best soccer content for our audiences. Your ultimate mission is to launch our brands in the states and make them the essential follow for the next generation of soccer fans. You must be able to set a vision for audience growth as well as get your hands dirty on production to make stuff happen. Prior soccer or sports expertise is not required. You don’t need to be an expert in soccer but you should be willing to learn. Your role will primarily focus on the MLS, the EPL, the UCL, and the NWSL, WSL, and WCL. You will be leading a team based primarily in NYC or LA.
This position is based in New York. We offer competitive compensation and a bonus scheme.
What You'll be doing?
Grow GOAL’s US audience by creating best-in-class video and social media content
Enhance GOAL’s credentials as the leading publisher around the US Men’s and Women’s National Teams ahead of the 2026 Men’s World Cup
Manage our US team of producer, social editors, and writers, plus manage a freelance budget and freelance contributors, directing our efforts and resources
Relentlessly improve our content — every word in every headline, every beat in every video — to craft compelling content. Be comfortable and willing to use tone of voice, opinions, and even controversy to deliver interesting content.
Co-own the relationships with platforms: YouTube, Meta, Twitter, Snapchat, Twitch, and Tiktok —
specifically as related to improving performance and revenues on these platforms
Take the best of what the GOAL network produces (in Arabic, Spanish and 13 other languages) to
transcribe, transcreate, or generally position it for a US audience. Soccer is a global game and US fans do follow the international superstars from leagues abroad.
Especially: improve the volume and voice of our offering for LatinX soccer fans in the US, working with colleagues in Mexico and around Latin America to produce content in English and Spanish for this audience
Cover social issues credibly and impactfully, promoting GOAL’s purpose of supporting access to soccer for everyone. Find the connection between soccer and wider culture.
WHAT YOU HAVE:
Significant professional video experience, including experience producing work for a variety of platformsband social networks, and building social audiences and communities
Obsession with social media; deep understanding of what people want to share and what makes
publishers successful.
Detailed understanding of the digital and social media landscape, ideally bringing your relationships at major social platforms with you into the business.
Track record of growing brands, hitting KPIs and engagement, and innovating in social video
Innate understanding of content analytics and using data to drive insights and performance
Strong organisational skills and ability to look ahead in content planning
Experience collaborating across departments and countries in complex organisations, as well as operating within a stakeholder matrix.
A vision for what soccer content should look like in 2023. The modern fan is changing consumption. We won’t set our coverage apart by doing what every other outlet does.
Branded content or advertising experience a plus but not required
You should include the following to apply:
A CV
Links to video and/or social media accounts you've produced, created, or worked on
Link to sizzle or showreel of video projects you produced
A few short paragraphs detailing why you would be right for the role
